Flamebow

I was browsing through the archives of my Flickr contacts today and found this amazing illustration by 100kr. It was made for Threadless, a site to which you can submit t-shirt designs. I don’t really know how Threadless works, so I’m not sure whether it was actually made into a real shirt, but I would buy this for sure.

Check out his other t-shirt designs, too.

Zenvironments - The Wanderer Series

Zach Johnsen is an illustrator from Portland who has turned some of his works into tangible objects. He explains:

I wanted to bring more of my wooden characters to life, but instead of placing them in a gallery, I wanted them in natural surroundings. Basically, I am trying to make a similar scene that I would on paper, but using photography. […]

Though he says he’s not quite done experimenting yet, the result is already quite impressive:

Rebuilding a Legacy

There’s an interesting article up on AIGA about a massive artwork called Gastrotypographicalassemblage, created by typography guru Lou Dorfsman. After it was apparently discarded from its original location, the CBS building, the Center for Design Study has been trying to restore it to its original form.

EDIT: the Center for Design Study has a Flickr account with more photos.

Corporate Identity Manuals

From insect54’s Flickr photostream:

This book, originally published in 1976, contains the full corporate identity manuals of thirteen companies.

iLK - Best Wishes 2008

This amazing, almost robotically concise cutout was done by iLK, a Paris-based graphic designer.

His paintings are worth checking out, too.

Vette Annonce

Dave from Grain Edit.com uploaded some photos from a very nice Dutch typography book from the early 1960s.

A digitized version of this font, Annonce, is also available.

Boodas

Go check out the work of Boris Schandert, a.k.a. Boodas, who combines graphic design with custom typefaces.
